How do I make my dogs friendly with other dogs?
Filed Under Dogs | 7 Comments
When they’re getting walked, they bark at every dog, including big dogs, they don’t know how to sniff without causing a fight. They also don’t get along with a family friend’s dog. How do I fix this?

How do you feel about dogs getting on furniture and sleeping with you in bed?
Filed Under Dogs | 21 Comments
I know they should be on the floor if they are in training for dominant behaviors, but after they have worked out their problems, shouldn’t they be allowed to sleep with the “pack”? I have a huge 100 lb four year old dog (very ********** to other dogs, children and people) and he loves to sleep with us, and sit on the couch with us. He does try to be the lap-dog sometimes (which is hilarious to see) but will listen when he is told to get down. He goes to sleep in my spot with my husband and when I go to bed he usually moves, sometimes he tries to test me, but will eventually move. Do you let your dog(s) get on the furniture why or why not?
details added for santitary reasons: I wash sheets/covers twice a week and we have a king size bed! …I don’t want ya’ll thinking I’m gross!!

How can I get my dog to stop growling at me and my other dogs when it feels threatened?
Filed Under Dogs | 4 Comments
My poodle/doxin growls each time my other dogs goes near him when it has a toy or object in it’s possesion. I have been trying to train my dogs using the “dog whisperer” style. By not reacting and yelling, but by using a stearn “ssh” sound. But it has not been working. Especially when he goes into his cage where he is in his “safety zone”. I even try saying NO and if I try to take the object away, he gets even more aggressive. What techniques should I try or do?
I have 2 other male dogs, which make the growling a little more tense and I take the toys(such as rawhides) away because it causes the dog I am talking about to growl and bark which causes the other male dogs to react and sometimes growl and bark and sometimes bite back. He doesn’t growl all the time, only when I am too close.

How do I stop a dog not to bark consistently at other dogs, so all the dogs in Day Camp will have more fun?
Filed Under Dogs | 5 Comments
There’s a dog I have had in my Day Camp room the last few days who is constantly barking at other dogs. The constant barking has almost led to some fights. Currently, the only thing I can do is spray water, but I’d like to know if there’s another way to handle the situation.

I’ve noticed with many dogs (far more commonly in big dogs than miniatures though), if you stare into thier eyes with a serious expression they get nervous and sometimes lay down on the ground. Why is this?

Best way to handle two new dogs in the same house?
Filed Under Dogs | 6 Comments
My wife and I are going to be buying a new house. Because the yard is plenty big and well fenced, we will finally be able to get the dogs we have always wanted.
Our ultimate goal is to raise two dogs, but from puppyhood, and both from larger breeds; most likely some combination of lab, GSD, Malamute or the like. We both have good experience with these kinds of dogs and I am well confident we will be able to raise happy and conent members of our growing family.
My question(s) are related about the best way to go about doing this. Should we get both puppies at once, or raise one at a time (and wait a year or so for the second). Should we mix the sexes, get both boys, both girls, or does it matter? And does anyone have any other thoughts relative to all of this?
Keep in mind that we are not intending to breed the dogs - both would be “fixed.”
Thanks!

I have three dogs whom I love a lot. Two of them are brand new Chihuahuas. I want to walk all three of my dogs at the same time, but it’s just too hard - I can’t carry three leashes in my hands safely. My Maltese dog is really obnoxious in public, so I can’t have all three of the leash wires tangling together when I’m out walking. Is there a kind of leash that has one handle, but more wires coming out of it that would allow me to walk all three dogs more comfortably at the same time, like a dogwalker’s leash? How do dogwalkers walk so many dogs at the same time without the wires constantly crossing?

What breeds of dogs get along best with cats?
Filed Under Dogs | 8 Comments
We had a collie, he was great with the cat but he died out of old age(13), so now we are thinking about getting another dog, maybe of a smaller, different breed. Now we have 2 cats: female(3 yr.) raised with dogs and a male(5 months) never been around a dog. Thanks.

I know people who take their dogs in to get groomed (bath, hair cut and nail trim, ear and teeth cleaning) about every 2 weeks to a month at a dog salon and sometimes I think it’s pricey but worth it for the dog to look nice, but sometimes I hear it’s bad because your not supposed to wash dogs so much. What are your thoughts on gettings dogs groomed so often?
