Personally, I think dog parks are a horrible idea. Many dogs, mostly small and elderly dogs have been killed at dog parks. Dogs in dog parks get into fights over rank issues. I don’t know all the dogs at a dog park, so I don’t know if they are aggressive, infested with parasites, or sick. I protect my dog and will not expose her to strange dogs in an environment such as a dog park. So, why do so many people think dog parks are a good place to bring their dogs?

My parents, both in their mid sixties, had to put their dog down a couple weeks ago. They are still grieving but are probably going to get another dog in the spring. Mom wants a dog that’s not too old but I can’t see them dealing with a hyperactive puppy. Their old dog was about 60 pounds but I think they will want a smaller dog this time. Does anyone have suggestions on which breeds are more laid back and easier to train and which ones they should stay away from? Thanks for your suggestions!

I want to adopt a dog but I’m not sure which kind would be best to get…I live in an apartment so I would want a relatively small dog and I work full time so the dog/dogs would be left at home for eight hours at a time for possibly three times a week.

I’m looking to buy a dog that has very low-medium energy. If the dog has higher energy then my dog, then my dog (9-yr old chow/shih-tzu mix) isn’t going to like it. I was thinking about getting a puppy, and was wondering if it really matter what breed I got or not because aren’t puppies normally very energetic?

I live in California and have two small children. The people behind us just moved in and build a dog run up against the bordering fence. They also placed the dog house against the fence and the dog is trying to get over to my yard.

These dogs bark & growl all day long. If they make it through the fence or over the fence. Do I have the right to shoot the dogs?

I’m mulling over the idea of getting a second dog. I have a dog now, a dachshund. She’ll be almost a year old when I would bring this “maybe” second pup into my life.

So, for anyone who has ever brought another dog into a home with an existing dog…what effect did this have on the first dog? Did he/she seem happier? Glad to have a canine playmate? Confused? Depressed? Scared? I’m fully aware that dogs are pack animals and it is natural for them to live together, but I can’t help but worry.

Also, what effect did it have on his/her relationship with you? Did you stay close, or did both dogs grow a bit more distant from you? I always worried that if they have each other, they won’t need me! Haha, that sound a little selfish, but that was my thought. I love her very much and I would **** our “relationship” to be negatively affected.

I’ve always only had one dog at a time, so anything else you can tell me about having more than one dog would be very helpful!
Thanks to everyone who has answered so far. I’m really looking for personal experiences and stories. Please, if you’ve introduced a second dog into your home, share them with me. This is a very important decision for me.

Raymond - Ha, my pup is at the vet right now being spayed. Definitely not interested in pups (although they would be cute). I’m no backyard breeder.

More specifically, whats in dog treats thats so different from regular dog food, and makes dogs freak over their treats? Why isnt this just added to regular dog food to make it more appealing to dogs, not that it really matters?

My family is wanting to get a large dog, we don’t care for small dogs that bark too much. But we are a little confused when it comes to the breed of dog we want because we hear about dogs that have bad temperments and are not good with children. We have three children ages are 10, 7, 5. We just need a dog that would be a good watch dog, but gentle and loving with our kids. Can anyone help?
We want to keep him inside, so we need a breed that would house train easily, too.

One of my dogs has some social issues. She barks at the door bell, people and other dogs. She’s is very sweet to me though. Now we found a stray dog in our yard one day and had to help it. So now we have two and our first dog won’t get along with the stray dog. And we can’t give the stray dog away because no one will take him. If anyone has any advice on what I should do please help. It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
