Dog fighting is horrible, but is it worse than how animals are treated in food processing plants?

yogabbagabba asked:
With the recent trouble with Michael Vick and his involvement in dog fighting rings, the subject of animal cruelty is on everyone’s minds as of late. But the great unspoken is how animals such as pigs, cows, ducks, and chickens are treated in your basic food processing plants; from cows’ throats being slashed, to ducks being forcefed with a tube down their throat. If dog fighting is a felony offense, then why do major food processing corporations continue to administer their own brand of animal cruelty? Who decided that dogs have more rights than other animals?
If your response is to point out the fact that animals in food processing plants are for food, and therefore the treatment is acceptable, I then ask you this: If dogs were considered food, would it then be acceptable?

well I’m sure that if the animals at the food processing plant were treated that why as a form of entertainment it wouldn’t happen. they did this for entertainment not to provide the population with food.
add: if we ate dogs in this country then they way they processed the food would be acceptable. they are not being killed for ENTERTAINMENT, that would be wrong.
as for the other answerer who said Vick is being set upon because he is a celebrity, that’s just absurd. as a celebrity he should know he’s in the spotlight and being in that spotlight was a surety he would get caught. we had a fighting ring broke up where i am a few months ago and there was a big uprising of animal lovers for that, and all those people were, were a bunch of dumb ***** heads, dope dealers, and welfare recipients. so you can drop the “he’s a celebrity and that’s why he’s getting in trouble” BS.
First, what happens in food processing plants is not used as a form of entrainment and people are not putting bets on which will win.
Second, if you have such a problem don’t eat it.
I am soo glad you do not see the way people butcher at home.
If you know of a better way to kill them please change the industry. Other than that refer back to my second point.
i completely agree with you. what is wrong with people these days? we are becoming so heartless, i cant stand it! we need to stand up for what’s right. i never have and never will eat at KFC because i heard they torture their chickens. those kind of people make me sick. who could hurt an animal? not me. not you. what do you mean by food processing plants though? give an example please. thanks for posting this question and raising awareness.
the supply and demand for meat in this country is completely outrageous. dogfighting is for entertainment purposes and people think it’s bad because dogs are pets and because he was a celebrity. and the way you see animals being ‘proccessed’ you’d never touch meat again. it’s not fair! i mean we can grow vegetables but most of our population pushes that away and goes instead for a giant stake or a big plate of ribs. who is so sick, so vile, so evil that they would kill a creature that never did anything wrong. you dont see people killing babies and roasting them on fires. killing is killing every way you look at it and it needs to stop
plus in china i heard that people do eat dogs
I see what you are saying but those dogs suffer terribly. If they are good then they fight numerous times and are wounded, if they are good at fighting they die terrible deaths. Also these idiot who fight them and train them sometime let them practice on strays or dogs from “free to good owner” adds.
I think PETA has done a lot to make the processing plants more humane. I don’t know what the answer to that is but dog fighting is cruel and those who participate should be prosecuted.
How many million Americans require food each day—All of us?? That is correct. And every body is hungry now. Requires lots of animals and animal food. Most of us like animals for food—I do… Don’t understand the problem???
Something has to be killed…
Relax we don’t eat dogs but the other side of the world does.. How do ya figure that out.??? Yes—Food…
I eat meat. I meat only from sources that I know personally. I live close enough to areas where I can still buy locally raised chicken and bacon. I also eat 1-2 deer every year that my friend donates to us. He’s an avid hunter who says he’d love to be out every weekend but won’t kill unless there’s a person to take the deer. His family was raised on venison. I don’t think substinance farming or responsible hunting are cruel. I have massive problems with factory farms that overcrowd the animals, mutilate them to keep them from injuring each other in such small spaces, (Perdue burns off the beaks of their chickens so they don’t kill each other) keep animals in boxes or squeeze cages, (laying hens, veal, pregnant sows) transports animals for slaughter in trailer too small or too crowded, kosher foods, (cutting the throat while it’s ‘blessed’) stun bolts that don’t work, electrocuting poultry while hanging them upside down, etc, etc. In short, I despise animal cruelty in ANY form, and do whatever I can to avoid contributing to it, and to prevent it. I see no difference between dogfighting and Perdue. I see a huge difference between dogfighting and taking a legal deer in season with one well-placed shot.
Dog fighting is horrible and I think people need to think about the dogs lives. I mean what if somebody was to train 2 humans to fight and then make them fight until one of them died. Either way the dogs will die whether in a dog fight or if they are “rescued” by animal control. So I think there should be an all around punishment. As for the food processing plants I think that there should be a law saying that the only way to kill an animal is to humanely euthanize, like they do for animals in the shelters. Dogs do not have more rights than other animals you shouldn’t be able to slit a cows throat, but you have to euthanize a dog. ALL life should be respected.
I don’t agree with all the ways that animals are handled during the food process but i ask you this…
Is every facility treating their animals this way or is it just the few that you see on tv or from peta?
Most places try to be humane in the slaughter of these animals, such as stunning them or knocking them out first. I am not saying that there isn’t a better way but so far it is the best and most efficienct way they have came up with. Also in dog fighting it is owners trying to make money off of the dog and torturing them for their own amussement. Animals for meat are for meat, is it wrong to shot a deer and feed your family?
Well first of all the animals processed in processing plants more than outnumber the amount of food needed to keep Americans alive and well - so all of you preaching “we need food” need to reconsider how much meat you REALLY eat vs. how much meat is REALLY processed.
It’s sort of a gluttonous american past-time I guess.
Regardless.. there’s still a huge difference (whether you want to acknowledge it or not) between endorsing dog fighting for profit and amusement and endorsing animal consumption - by whatever means necessary.
I think dogs - man’s all time “best friend” and domestic companion - pull on people’s heartstrings more than a chicken - which to many people is ONLY there for food and not much else.
Not all processing plants are cruel but on the flip side there are plenty of countries which DO eat dogs - and there are plenty of PETA propaganda videos regarding such facilities/companies.
FINALLY SOMEONE UNDERSTANDS! if a dog was treated that way it’ll be a felony. but why are we allowed to slowly murder cows and other farm animals? is it ok to kill millions of animals a day? ****** was bad for killing 6 million people. We are doing the same thing only twice as fast and twice as cruel. Ladies and Gentlemen this is the second Holocaust.
